Consultation and Policy Development

Members of the Indigenous Project Team will consult with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) throughout the life of the Project via the Project Advisory Group and consultations with Indigenous family support workers and their managers and with mainstream services working in the area of Indigenous family support/child protection.

 

The Project Advisory Group is made up of Indigenous and non-Indigenous managers and workers from participating ACCOs, Take Two, Berry Street, the FIG, DHS’ Indigenous Unit, and Bouverie staff. The Advisory group meets bi-monthly to support, advise and consult with the project team. 

 

As part of the consultation and policy development process, workers and managers will be invited to participate in Community Forums, focus group discussions or meetings with individual team members and members of the Advisory and Research Groups.

 

What we learn during the consultation process will be reviewed by Aboriginal communities and by the Project Advisory Group on an ongoing basis, and shared learnings will be fed back to the Bouverie Indigenous Team to improve the training and support of current and future students and participant organisations in the program. It is our hope that learnings from the consultation process will also inform Aboriginal Health Worker Training in relevant course modules in other Indigenous and mainstream training programs, and also directly inform the Victorian Government’s policy and planning around providing better quality and more responsive Indigenous child and family services.
