Goulburn Valley Area Mental Health Service is situated in Shepparton in the West Hume Region of Victoria. It covers the Shires of Moira, Greater Shepparton, Strathbogie, Mitchell & Murrindindi. 

The Families where a Parent has a Mental Illness (FaPMI) Coordinator has been working in the region since 2007 and is based with the Primary Mental Health Team.
 
This position is a service development position and does not have a clinical function. It aims at increasing the capacity for the Area Mental Health Service and its partner agencies to work more effectively with families where there is parental mental illness.
 
The core business of the Coordinator includes:
  • The provision of training and education regarding family sensitive practice.
  • Collection and distribution of resources to support family sensitive practises.
  • Development of partnerships between mental health and family support services.
  • Supporting the provision of peer support programs for infants/children, young people or parents.
