Taekwondo classes

Families attending The Bouverie Centre for counselling can now take advantage of a wonderful opportunity to train under some of the best Taekwondo instructors in the country right here at 8 Gardiner St, Brunswick.

Taekwondo classes are offered during each school term. They run for approximately 45 minutes on Monday afternoons, followed by an afternoon snack (sponsored by The Shop Cafe, 208 Mt Alexander Road, Travancore) as well as a chance to catch up with fellow participants.

Participants are required to dress in loose, comfortable clothing and bring along a gold coin for donation. (Alternative arrangements can be made if payment is an issue).

No information from family sessions is shared during class.

About the instructors:

Lydia Zakkas-Victor and Bernie Victor (5TH Dan) from The Melbourne Taekwondo Centre have both competed at world championship level in Taekwondo. They retired from competition several years ago to teach and support young people in their local community to get fit and have fun developing their skills in Taekwondo.

Lydia and Bernie have kindly offered to donate their time and services to The Bouverie Centre and its clientele on a weekly basis.

Taekwondo is a martial art enjoyed by people of both genders and of many ages. Learning Taekwondo can build strength, speed, balance, flexibility, and fitness as well as self confidence and self discipline.

Classes first commenced at The Bouverie Centre in Term 4 of 2009. Approximately 10-15 young people attend each week and are aged between 5 and 13 years old. Anecdotal reports from family members suggest that participation in the classes has had some really positive impacts on these young people.
