A number of different levels of family therapy training, research, and coursework in family sensitive practice are being offered in 2012 for health and welfare professionals.
Graduate Certificate in Family Therapy
Now taking applications for 2012.
· One year part-time course, six hours per week (on Mondays) over two 13-week semesters
· Designed to provide an introduction to theoretical concepts and practices useful in working with families
Further professional supervision and family therapy training would be required for accreditation as a family therapist.
Graduate Certificate in Narrative Therapy
Now taking applications for 2012.
· One year part-time course, six hours per week (on Fridays) over two 13-week semesters
· Outlines post-structural and narrative therapy theory and practice
Further professional supervision and therapy training would be required for accreditation as a family or narrative therapist.
Master of Clinical Family Therapy
Now taking applications for 2012.
This is the first Masters level clinical family therapy training offered in
· Two year part-time course
· Each year comprises 6 hours of training per week for two 13-week semesters
· Provides unique opportunity for live supervision of family work
· Integrates family therapy theory
Following successful completion of the course (with additional supervision) students will be eligible for clinical membership of the Victorian Association of Family Therapists (VAFT).
Doctor of Clinical Science (ClinScD) in Family Therapy
The aim of this course is to equip family therapists with advanced conceptual, practice, supervisory and research skills.
This professional doctorate in family therapy involves
· A 67% research degree
· 3 years full-time study (or equivalent part-time)
· a thesis of 30,000 to 60,000 words
· one core unit
· research colloquia
· three clinical electives
Applicants must have the equivalent of an honours degree and a Postgraduate Diploma of Family Therapy. No fees apply. Scholarships may be available depending on your area of research interest and academic background.
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
This is a 3 year full-time or 5 year part-time research degree requiring the successful completion of a research thesis of up to 80,000 words in an area relevant to family therapy.
Applicants are expected to have completed relevant family therapy training. No fees apply. Scholarships may be available depending on your area of research interest and academic background.
