Research

Our unique and diverse research program at The Bouverie Centre focuses on families and communities, with a specialist interest in developing and applying innovative mixed method qualitative and quantitative research to evaluate and improve clinical practice, to support and evaluate workforce innovations in family inclusive practices, and to study the breadth and diversity of family life, and the health and well-being of families.

The Bouverie Centre conducts social inclusion research, cooperative inquiry and action research and evaluation with families and communities in a number of specialised areas including: mental illness; sexual abuse; acquired brain injury; training; Aboriginal child and family support workers in family therapy;  supporting drought affected communities; gay and lesbian parenting;  sexuality and health studies; and implementing family inclusive practices in community and mental health, drug and alcohol, and other sectors. The Centre also has an active postgraduate research program.

Our current postgraduate research program has twelve PhD candidates and two Masters by Research candidates. Since 1996, more than 40 students have completed minor Masters Research Theses, and two

students have completed a Masters by Research. We have seven completed PhDs over the last decade. The majority of programs at the Centre also have staff actively involved in researching and evaluating innovative practice.
