SSW implementation (2005-06)

This project built on the successful state-wide SSW training project, which was conducted in 2003-04. 

The SSW implementation project was funded from July 2005 – June 2006, and had the following key deliverables:

1.    Catch-up SSW training for Community Health Counsellors (General, Gambling and AOD) who did not participate in the 2003-04 state-wide training program. 
2.    Support for implementation through
a. Regional implementation forums, and
b. Resource development and distribution to support SSW implementation.
3.    Consultation to the Counselling Client Pathways Framework re: consistency with SSW. 

The project’s objectives were to:

•    Support State-wide SSW implementation in Community Health Services.  Work with interested Community Health Services to re-structure their counselling services based on SSW.  Assist with change management issues within counselling teams, and provide expert advice and support during and after implementation, via a combination of visiting agencies, regional networks, and the provision of support by phone and email.
•    Provide centre-based training to those counsellors who were unable to attend the previous round of training, in response to some counsellors expressing disappointment about not being able to attend in the past due to other commitments.
•    Develop specific training and support resources to assist in Community Health Services to implement SSW.
•    Work collaboratively with the sector to develop the Counselling Client Services Model, formalising pathways from clients’ initial needs identification through to counselling intake, prioritisation, case allocation, progress review and case closure.

As part of this project, the SSW Implementation Resource Parcel was developed, and includes:
•    A DVD and User’s Guide demonstrating a full SSW process;
•    An SSW implementation booklet to guide managers, intake workers and counsellors or case-workers through the implementation process;
•    A CD with electronic versions of all necessary SSW paperwork; and
•    Detailed flowcharts to help staff understand and implement SSW.
