The success of SSW relies heavily on the routine performance of various ‘admin’ tasks. The process begins at intake but continues through the session itself and in the follow-up phase.
All SSW paperwork is downloadable from the Resource section of these webpages.
Intake
A person other than the clinician or the counsellor generally does intake. The processes for SSW (e.g. explaining SSW, booking an appointment, sending out a letter and a questionnaire, sending an explanatory letter to the referrer if the client is not self-referred) - see Intake guidelines on these webpages.
The Session
Admin tasks for clinicians or counsellors also occur within the single session. Many of these revolve around keeping to time, staying focused and ensuring that the client understands the process.
The most important clinical admin tasks are to read the questionnaire, complete the ‘Take Aways’, arrange the follow-up phone call, and complete the summary sheet after the session.
Follow-Up
At follow-up, admin tasks are crucial to the success of SSW. In this phase, the emphasis is on
discovering the client’s response to the single session and whether another session is required.
There are two forms completed during the follow-up phone call (Post-SSW Client Questionnaire and the SSW Phone Follow-Up Form to summarise the client’s feedback and act as a checklist for actions pending).
Feedback about the process generally is also sought during the phone call, and a client satisfaction survey is later sent to the client.
