Training & Consultations

Bouverie has a long tradition of offering quality short courses and workshops as part of the Community Services program. Continuing Education Courses for professionals provide the opportunity for workers to enhance their therapeutic skills and knowledge in an efficient adult learning environment facilitated by experienced practitioners. Courses and workshops include the four day general introduction to family therapy, FaST (Family Sensitive Training) extension courses, specialist topics and courses for particular professions such as Family Psychiatry for Psychiatrists and Medical Practitioners. For details of the courses and workshops available see the Courses section of this website

Clinical and organisational (service development) consultations are available from experienced Bouverie staff.  Clinical consultations can be ‘case based’ discussions (secondary consultation) or involve direct work with families (primary consultations).  Organisational consultations can be developed to address service delivery and management issues (tertiary consultations) that promote improved working relationships between stakeholders (e.g. consumers, carers and workers).  Consultations can provide support and skill development for working with families and ideas for promoting family sensitivity within service delivery.  Public Mental Health services are given priority because The Bouverie Centre is largely funded by Human Services Mental Health Branch.  Consultations can be time-limited or ongoing and can be delivered to existing routine meetings such as team meetings, to an interest group within an organisation, or to an entire team or service.  Ongoing consultations can increase the efficiency and quality of services and are generally provided fortnightly or monthly.  The specific areas of experience and interests of Bouverie consultants will be matched to the needs of the service requesting consultation support.  Although consultations are usually provided in person, isolated rural services have the option of augmenting face-to-face sessions with telephone or video-conferencing sessions.

If you are interested in exploring the possibility of our Community Team developing a training or consultation series suited to the particular needs of your organisation and staff, please contact Penny Wong.
