The FaPMI coordinator has been working on programs for families affected by parental mental illness in the Geelong region since 2003 and has been recurrently funded since 2006 at 1EFT. The program is as a result of a partnership agreement between Barwon Health and Glastonbury family services.
In a practical sense, the coordinator, a mental health clinician, is collocated at Glastonbury family services where programs are run.
Aspects of the program include:
- Education of mental health staff & other relevant disciplines;
- Primary, secondary and tertiary consultation;
- Facilitation of peer support programs to children & adolescents affected by parental mental illness;
- Provision of resources to workers and families, appropriate to program; and
- Facilitation of community liaison group with representatives from 12 local agencies and consumer representative.
