"This is an excellent package which can be recommended for all those involved with mental illness. For consumers, carers and workers it will be helpful in identifying issues that have to be dealt with and offers a useful model for working collaboratively with others involved in the situation. For teachers and trainers it is a first class educational video with good support material. For the general public it offers a sympathetic but realistic look at the issues facing consumers, carers and workers when someone has a serious mental illness. In its path it dispels some popular myths and allows the viewer to identify with the participants rather than see them as the other. As such it is a 'must' for all mental health care facilities, as well as for those involved in training and education for consumers, carers and/or workers. It is also recommended for all university libraries."

A copy of video 1: "Casserole Negative" can be previewed for the cost of returning the video.

The ‘F’ Word DVD – Consumer Perspective’s on Family Involvement in Mental Health Care
The involvement of families in the treatment of adults experiencing mental health problems is now widely promoted as a key element in providing mental health services. Yet for family inclusion to have the best chance of working well for all parties, professionals need to be sensitive to the issues for consumers of having their family or friends participate in their care.

This 28 minute DVD explores the perspectives and personal experiences of four consumer advocates of family involvement in treatment. In a group and in one-on-one interviews these consumers describe the benefits of family inclusion, how family involvement can go wrong and the advice they would give to mental health professionals about how to constructively include families and friends in care.

Cost: DVD $55.
Cost: VHS $30.

Family Sensitive Practice for CAT Services: A Clinical Resource
This Resource, which grew out of a training program developed by the Bouverie Centre for Crisis and Assessment Treatment Services (CATS), captures the good practice of experienced clinicians in working with families. It also provides theoretical frameworks and useful references that can inform practice with families in the unique context of acute mental healthcare. From the point of first contact to discharge and in a range of specific circumstances, this resource demonstrates how families can be meaningfully involved in treatment through good practice suggestions and case examples. It aims to provide guidance on working with families for clinicians new to CAT Services as well as promoting dialogue about Family Sensitive Practice in the acute context.

Cost: $30.00.
