Our Approach to Training and Consultation
The Mental Health Program’s new focus on achieving sustainable practice change means that we will be encouraging service providers to consider carefully the intended outcomes of training. We are open to working with you to develop realistic goals and to get the most out of your available resources. Where the aim is practice change we will usually suggest that those seeking training see this as one part of an overall approach to implementing new practice. We can help you consider the range of implementation strategies available, such as establishing pre-training practice measures, co-working, group supervision and consultation regarding policy and procedures.
One day courses will continue to be offered in developing areas of practice as part of The Bouverie Centre’s Continuing Education Program. These programs are also a way of increasing practitioners awareness of issues affecting families and of new approaches in the field. For details of the full range of courses and workshops available see the Courses section of this website.
The FaST and Get Together FaST pages of this website contain more detailed information about those programs.
Clinical and organisational (service development) consultations are available from Bouverie staff with experience in the mental health sector. Clinical consultations can be ‘case based’ discussions (secondary consultation) or involve direct work with families (primary consultations). Organisational consultations can be developed to address service delivery and management issues (tertiary consultations) that promote improved working relationships between stakeholders (e.g. consumers, carers and workers). Consultations can provide support and skill development for working with families and ideas for promoting family sensitivity within service delivery. Consultations can be time-limited or ongoing and can be delivered to existing routine meetings such as team meetings, to an interest group within an organisation, or to an entire team or service. The specific areas of experience and interests of Bouverie consultants will be matched to the needs of the service requesting consultation support. Although consultations are usually provided in person, isolated rural services have the option of augmenting face-to-face sessions with telephone or video-conferencing sessions.
If you are interested in exploring the possibility of our Mental Health Program developing a training or consultation series suited to the particular needs of your organisation and staff, please contact Penny Wong.
