All staff in participating schools took part in a professional development day on Safety in Schools & Dealing with Homophobia. Out of this day, schools developed and refined their Equal Opportunity, Discrimination and Harassment Policies to cover homophobic language and abuse. Posters supporting same-sex attracted youth and anti-homophobic language and behaviour were placed around schools - in corridors and in staff rooms. Equal opportunity information was distributed to staff and parents.
Some schools have introduced a BT unit into the middle years elective program, while other Facilitators have integrated Breaking Through into their existing English, SOSE, PE and Health classes.
Breaking Through is also being used to ‘troubleshoot’ an issue, for example, in home-groups having difficulty with bullying.
