News & Updates from FaPMI Coordinators

Since the launch of the FaPMI strategy in mid 2007, much has been achieved in addressing workforce change in relation to FaPMI and in developing partnerships with organisations and individuals. The presence of FaPMI coordinators in the eleven AMHS has encouraged service providers to start thinking more strategically about the ways their service identifies and responds to the needs of FaPMI. The increase in funding in mid 2008 has meant that new coordinators are in Mid-West AMHS, Grampian, Glenelg and Dandenong. It also means that the positions in Eastern Health, Gippsland and Bendigo are increased to full-time.

The developing partnerships with Integrated Family Services (IFS) across these regions is very exciting in promoting an early intervention approach to working with families and in developing stronger collaborative practices between IFS and Specialist mental health services. The collective learnings from the regions is indicating what appears to be most useful in promoting sustainable change, and 2009 will consolidate these learnings. In 2009 Bouverie employed Melinda Goodyear 0.2 EFT as a  FaPMI Research and Evaluation Academic assistant and this position will continue into 2010.
