Beacon Strategy

The Bouverie Centre has now commenced Phase 2 of an innovative project to support the AOD sector to implement purposeful family inclusive practices. This work is being undertaken as part of a 3-year DHS-funded strategy for workforce development.

Twenty-five AOD organisations, across both rural and metropolitan Victoria, have joined the project since February 2009, to become 'Beacon' sites, and are being supported with a comprehensive package of staff training, as well as clinical and implementation support. This is provided through monthly Co-operative Inquiry Groups, which bring representatives from each agency together, and through individual agency consultations negotiated as required with each agency. Booster training sessions, which are developed in response to issues raised by workers in the field, are offered through the year to all staff who have attended the initial core training .  These layers of support to each participating agency will last for the duration of the project.

In direct response to emerging information about the many levels of effective implementation, a new layer of support has been added for middle managers who have responsibility for the implementation and sustainability of this work in their agencies and programs.

The project is being conducted within a Participatory Action Research framework, to gather the rich learning that emerges, and to support evolving practice wisdoms to be shared between practitioners, managers, and across organisations.
